SHOOK TWINS & OLY MOUNTAIN BOYS, NOV 17th

We're proud to host the Shook Twins at Rhythm and Rye on November 17th! Get your tickets now, this one may sell out!

Born and raised in Sandpoint Idaho, Shook Twins are an Indie folk-pop band hailing from Portland, Oregon. Identical twins, Katelyn and Laurie are the main songwriters, but they also back up their band member Niko Slice (electric guitar, mandolin and vocals) adding his uniquely compelling songs to the mix. Barra Brown is on Drums, vocals and Drum Pad, and Josh Simon is on Bass, vocals, Electric guitar, and synth. Central to Shook Twins’ sound is their wide range of instrumentation: banjo, acoustic and electric guitars, electric bass, mandolin, electronic drums, face drum (beat-box), glockenspiel, ukulele, banjo-head drumming and their signature Golden Egg. Beautiful twin harmonies, layered upon acoustic and electric instrumentation, coupled with Laurie’s inventive use of percussive and ambient vocal loops, and Katelyn’s re-purposed telephone microphone, set their sound apart, creating a unique and eccentric blend of folk, roots, groove and soul.

STEAMBOAT HOUSE BAND

We're getting ready for the Jamboree with a great new bluegrass event in Olympia! The Steamboat House Band bluegrass jam! Members of the Oly Mountain Boys, The Pine Hearts, Steamboat Stringband Jamboree performers from around the Pacific Northwest, and other pickers will come together at The Eastside Club Tavern on Sunday afternoons for a new and different bluegrass combination.

We've got two dates coming up with more to come. February 19th will feature Justin Eubanks of Portland's Out West. Come to Oly for the Traditions Cafe Bluegrass Jam and stay for the Steamboat show! The March Steamboat Jam will take place on March 12th.

The Steamboat House Band will perform for the first set. For the second set, YOU can sign up, open-mic style, to pick a few with us! Like the Steamboat House Band page on Facebook and tell your bluegrass pickin friends far and wide!

First things first: don't miss our special Steamboat Stringband Harvest Party, which features The Pine Hearts, The Lowest Pair, and The Last Revel!

And if that weren't exciting enough - this bunch has made a new bluegrass album!

A collaboration was born in 2016 when Nate and Jackie of Daniels and Baker joined the Olympia music community via Chicago, Illinois. Inspired by many of the same classic bluegrass roots, the duo became frequent guests and natural jam buddies with Olympia's resident bluegrass pickers, the Oly Mountain Boys.

The potential to make a dual album, in the spirit of Steve Earle's The Mountain featuring the Del McCoury band, became too enticing to pass up. But touring schedules didn't leave much time. So they all got in the studio and brought these tunes to life in live takes.

The Oly Mountain Boys bring full traditional bluegrass band power. Daniels and Baker bring innovative arranging and sharp vocal harmonies. And everybody picks up a storm.

Nate and Jackie have traveled on to Nashville, Tennessee now, so we've called in our good friends Ky Burt and The Hollerbodies from Portland to help us release this album at Rhythm & Rye on November 19th! And we'll have it in hand when we head to Seattle on November 30th for a show at the Nectar with Cascade Crescendo and Sourwood Stringband!
